The Rev. Shari Prestemon has been the Conference Minister of the Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ since October 2013. She served local parishes in Wheaton, Illinois and Stevens Point, Wisconsin before receiving the call to Back Bay Mission (Biloxi, Mississippi) in 2000 as its Executive Director. She served at Back Bay Mission in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and spent the following years of her ministry leading disaster recovery efforts and transforming the work of the Mission.
Special recognitions include the Reinhold Niebuhr Award for Service by Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis (2007), and the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award from Chicago Theological Seminary (2008). She received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Heidelberg University (Ohio) in May 2010. She was presented with a Distinguished Service Award by Luther College (Decorah, IA) in 2014.
Prestemon received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in social work from Luther College (Decorah, IA) in 1989. She was awarded the Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary in 1993 and was ordained that same year. Prestemon currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Common Global Ministries Board of the United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ and on the Board of Trustees for United Theological Seminary.
